Canyon Middle School is a public middle school in Castro Valley, California, USA. It is one of two middle schools in the Castro Valley Unified School District, the other being Creekside Middle School.
The enrollment is around 1,400 students in grades 6-8 and the Principal is Mark Croghan.[1]
Canyon Middle School's motto is Respect, Excellence, and Pride.

The unsolved murder, in 1994 of Canyon student Jennifer Lin, was widely publicised.[3]
In 2008, Grace Moon, 6th grader of Canyon Middle School won a national contest sponsored by Google to create a custom Google logo.[4]
Canyon is the first school in the Alameda County to received the National School To Watch award.
Canyon Middle School is a rival to Creekside Middle School. One of the many games played against (and is quite popular) each other is the annual Battle of the Valley, for flag football(known to those in Castro Valley). One exception is the tennis team, where both schools team up, with an A team and a B team.
Canyon has a band, a jazz band, an orchestra,and multiple choirs( 6th grade choir, 6th grade boys choir, Treble Choir, Choral ensemble and jazz choir.[1]
Orchestra and band has a sixth grade group in the morning, and a 7/8 grade advanced group. There is a group for those to try out in, the jazz band.
Choir is more divided, with different groups. There is a sixth grade group, and the some sixth grade boys are split from the girls sometimes (at concerts and a day to practice). The treble choir is for 7th grade girls, and the 7th grade boys are to go with the 8th graders. There is a jazz choir also, for those who want to do it.
There are some activities during school hours also.

Canyon Middle School split its 2010 Boys Basketball team into 2 teams (Canyon Gold and Canyon Red) which participated in the 2010 HARD League (Hayward Area Recreation Department). The league consisted of 9 teams from 8 schools from the San Francsico East Bay Ara; Canyon Red, Canyon Gold, Creekside, East Ave (Livermore), Washington Manor, Strobridge, Lorin Eden, Redwood Christian and Valley Christian.
The top four teams advanced to the playoffs; Washington Manor (7-1); Creekside (6-2), Canyon Red (6-2) and Valley Christian (5-3). Washington Manor defeated Valley Christian in their semi-final game and Canyon Red advanced to the HARD League Championship game. Canyon Red defeated Washington Manor 23-21 in the championship game to win the HARD league.
